According to Kuala Lumpur news on the 17th, Malaysian Transport Minister Lu Zhaofu (left) tried out the cashless payment method of UnionPay (UioPay) on the Golong’s All-in-one Bus Validator in person with the assistance of staff.

Transport Minister Lu Zhaofu hoped that there would be more public transport services that provide multiple cashless payment systems in the future, and encourage people to use cashless public transport.
He pointed out that cashless payment systems enable service operators to analyze data and grasp service usage trends, thereby enhancing services and providing consumers with dynamic prices.
Cashless transactions also enable businesses to be more competitive and efficient, especially in the transportation sector, he added.
“Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said last year that the cashless system is very good for society, which can fight corruption because every transaction is recorded.”
Lu Zhaofu recommended a cashless payment system today for public transport services under ERL, namely KLIA Ekspress and KLIA Transit.
He said that the Kuala Lumpur Airport Express and Airport Branch services provide a variety of cashless payment systems, which not only make it more convenient for consumers but also facilitate foreign tourists to take public transportation from the airport to the city.
“Foreign tourists may come to Malaysia without a MYR or local transport card, but now they can use any card in their wallets to take the Airport Express.”
“As far as I know, the national infrastructure company (Prasarana) is also doing this, and in the next few months, services will no longer need to be paid in cash, such as rapid transit, light rail and bus.”
He said that some people may still find it convenient to use cash, but for service operators, cash transactions will increase their costs.
“For example, bus and metro companies, when dealing with this cash every day, they need to pay security fee and deposit it in the bank, which indirectly increases the cost.”
Consumers and foreign tourists can now travel to and from Kuala Lumpur Airport in a cashless way via Boost, Wallet, Grab Pay, Mastercard, Maybank, Touch n Go, UnionPay, and Visa.
Lu Zhaofu stressed that connecting Mykad with an unlimited monthly RM100 public transport pass is just the beginning, which is not a fixed system.
Attendees included Tan Sri Dr Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh, the executive chairman of Airport Express Railway, Norma, the chief executive officer, etc.
